COACHING THROUGH MIND BODY & HEART INTEGRATION
It is a known fact that “Good Posture” is desirable and not just for your looks but also for your whole body health. Why then are postural issues a widespread happening?
So widespread that people all over are spending gazillions of dollars on “Posture Gadgets or Devices”. Can these objects truly help long term? Changing habits can be challenging, and we all appreciate all the help we can get. So, let’s find out the pros and cons that can be expected from these popular gadgets?
There are two main categories of gadgets or devices: the wearable ones to prevent slouching (such as posture braces like the ones above) and those using a device that let you know when you are slouching.

Although these objects were created to help people with this rampant posture problem, do they actually do the job beyond temporary help? Spending less time slouching is always a benefit because it can relieve related pain and discomfort while making people feel good about themselves, even if for a moment. So in that way, posture gadgets can be a good thing.
However, being reminded that you are slouching doesn’t change how you react to that stimulus which is where the problem really lies.
Without changing how you manage your slouching habit, you may be turning into a “chronic holder”! For sustainable results, managing a slouching habit must be a natural whole body happening, not a body parts correcting like chest up and shoulders back. The good thing is that there is a natural solution to this common issue.

Remember that when you were a young child, nobody had to tell you to stand up straight. As you can see on the pictures above, my son was poised without instructions whether sitting on the steps of the house, running on the beach or digging a hole in the sand. His head, neck and torso are beautifully poised!
Poise is our birth right. It comes from functioning as the integrated whole we were designed to be. When children start going to school where they sit at a desk for many hours in a row or they use their computer or smart phone slouched on the couch, they loose connection with the proper functioning of their body. As we grow up, we spend so much time in our mind that we continue to loose connection with our body wisdom.
Instead of letting our mind tell our body what to do to be poised as if it knew better than our body wisdom, reconnecting to our body as a whole to cooperate with our body wisdom is the way to reclaim ease of movement and ease of being.
————— TIPS TO HELP RECLAIM EASE OF MOVEMENT & EASE OF BEING ————–
#1. Come back to your breath and whole body awareness as often as you can throughout the day. It will bring you in the present moment and help calm your nervous system.
#2. Feel the support under your body weight so you that can release excess tension into it. A true release merges with gravity and flows straight down into your chair or the ground.
#3. Feet flat on the floor helps you sit more upright once you release through them to be fully grounded.
#4. If you need to prop your back, support your coccyx area rather than your muscles so your spine has a chance to expand upward naturally instead of leaning back unto your chair.
